Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, often due to increased intraocular pressure (IOP) inside the eye. The optic nerve is responsible for carrying visual information from the retina to the brain. When this nerve becomes damaged, the brain can no longer process images correctly, leading to gradual vision loss or visual impairment.

Although vision loss from glaucoma cannot be reversed, modern low vision technologies can help patients make the most of their remaining sight. Devices such as portable digital magnifiers, IrisVision, OrCam, Jordy, eSight, and CCTVs can enhance visual clarity, making it easier for individuals with glaucoma to read, work, and enjoy daily activities.

With proper low vision care and adaptive tools, glaucoma patients can maintain independence and continue doing the things they love with greater confidence and ease.
